Thurs Oct 9

Today we took our reading quiz (5th & 6th period) and then we went through a powerpoint on western europe after the fall of Rome. We then read an article about Charlemagne and completed a graphic organizer.

4th period: please do the Charlemagne reading/organizer for homework and make sure to review slides 1-17 of this powerpoint.

Today we compared the Byzantine, Islamic, and early Russian civilizations. We used a venn diagram to chart certain similarities and differences between the 3 cultures, and then we worked in groups to analyze art from the three cultures.

Today we completed a QW/practice thesis statement to review yesterday's material, and then we went through a powerpoint on early Russia. Then we read a primary source excerpt from a medieval Russian law code.

Mon Oct 6

Today we completed a timeline on the middle ages in Western and Eastern Europe, and then we took notes on the Byzantine Empire. We then acted out a play about Emperor Justinian and Theodora.

Today we went over the packet for unit 3A, completed a QW and then watched an animated map of religion, and then we got the partner assignment for completing a class powerpoint on Islamic civilization & culture. We will continue to work on this tomorrow!

Today we finished up the powerpoint on trade networks, and then worked in pairs on DBQ skills and the spread of Buddhism into China. The rest of classtime was used to work on the trade networks choice board. Remember: if you are doing a performance, your project is due FRIDAY. ALL projects are encouraged to be finished by Friday, but the formal due date is MONDAY.

Today we took the last reading quiz of this unit, and then listened to a story about Ashoka and took notes on it. Then we went through a few slides on the Mauryan and Gupta Empires. The rest of class was spent finishing our mandalas OR working on the belief systems charts which are due Monday.

Today we reviewed the powerpoint slides on China, and then we read two primary source documents on women in China & India, and had a snowball discussion. Then we went over a few slides on the Vedic Age in India.

Today we took the first reading quiz of the unit and then we completed a read-around from yesterday's intro paragraph practice. Then we went over some slides on the Roman Republic and received and notes sheet and timeline for ancient Rome that we will fill out tomorrow.

Today we completed a QW on ancient Athens, and then reviewed the characteristics of Sparta & Athens. We demonstrated a Greek phalanx and then moved on to creating flashcards on the Greek wars using QR codes.

Today we wrapped up APPARTS analysis with our document from yesterday. Then we went through a few slides on Ancient Greece, Sparta, and Athens. We finished with a pair/share article on Spartan and Athenian education - if you were out, pick up this assignment in class.

Today we started unit 2! We went over our packets, and then took notes on classical empires & the Persians. We finished by discussing the APPARTS method of analyzing documents, and used it on a document by Herotodus.

Today we took reading quiz 1 - be prepared to make this up ASAP if you were out.

We then reviewed the 3 Chinese Philosophies discussed in chapter 2, and our classwork assignment was writing "advice letters" from the three philosophies' perspectives.

Today we discussed how to take notes in class and from text. We watched a short video clip on taking notes from a teacher's lecture, and then looked at 5 different note-taking methods. We practiced by reading articles on the Iceman, cave art, & "Lucy". We also received our unit 1 packets.
