Fri Aug 29

Today we wrapped up APPARTS analysis with our document from yesterday. Then we went through a few slides on Ancient Greece, Sparta, and Athens. We finished with a pair/share article on Spartan and Athenian education - if you were out, pick up this assignment in class.

Thurs Aug 28

Today we started unit 2! We went over our packets, and then took notes on classical empires & the Persians. We finished by discussing the APPARTS method of analyzing documents, and used it on a document by Herotodus.

Today we had our first writing workshop, which was how to write an introductory paragraph and a thesis statement for a history essay. We did a "flash intro" to practice and then had a "read around" peer edit.

Thurs Aug 21

Today we took reading quiz 1 - be prepared to make this up ASAP if you were out.

We then reviewed the 3 Chinese Philosophies discussed in chapter 2, and our classwork assignment was writing "advice letters" from the three philosophies' perspectives.

Review the unit 1 powerpoint for the notes on the philosophies. This is the graphic organizer we used in class and here is the letter assignment.

Today we learned about Hammurabi's Code! We did a short skit, discussed the document, and compared the code to our legal system with seven modern-day scenarios.

Today we finished going over G-SPRITE and then discussed one of the methods to analyze a document, SOAPStone. We then worked in groups to practice SOAPStone with 5 documents.

Today we reviewed yesterday's article on agriculture, and then we worked in groups to identify 8 characteristics of a civilization. We then looked at a few slides from the unit 1 powerpoint.

Today we reviewed the information in our unit 1 packet, and then we did a timeline + poll questions regarding how to tell historical time. We went through some slides from our unit 1 powerpoint, and then received an article to read tonight for HW as well as some discussion questions - please have this prepared for tomorrow's class!

Today we discussed how to take notes in class and from text. We watched a short video clip on taking notes from a teacher's lecture, and then looked at 5 different note-taking methods. We practiced by reading articles on the Iceman, cave art, & "Lucy". We also received our unit 1 packets.
